Rubber compounds are a mixture of polymers, fillers, anti-oxitives and curatives. Various combinations can improve specific properties. For example, special compounds can be used to increase temperature range or improve fluid resistance. Selecting the right material results in better application performance.
Your choice of compound depends on factors including temperature, medium to be sealed, environmental conditions, and pressures. Our Materials area provides examples of the many types of compounds we supply. You can also find out more in our Useful Information section of our site.
Probably the most common material classification system used in O-Ring specification is ASTM D 2000 Standard Classification System for Rubber Products. The purpose of this classification system is to help you select the right rubber products for specific environments. It also provides a line call-out designation for the specification of materials.
