Viton® / FKM O-rings have excellent resistance to high temperatures, ozone, weather, oxygen, mineral oil, fuels, hydraulic fluids, aromatics and many solvents. FKM is ideal for o rings and cord.
Key uses for FKM o-rings
Key uses for FKM o-rings includes seals for aircraft engines and automotive fuel handling systems. Other uses might include high temperature and low compression set applications. Wide chemical exposure situations. Hard vacuum service.
Basic service temperature range is -20°C to 205°C (Short periods up to 230°C).
We supply FKM O-rings and FKM O-rings in many different types and Shore Hardness. NORSOK approved compounds are available on request. We are can also supply Viton ® / FKM which meets the requirements of FDA CFR title 21, section 177.2600 – compound is V75/FDA. About Viton® o-rings
Viton® / FKM o-rings have excellent resistance to high temperatures, ozone, weather, oxygen, mineral oil, fuels, hydraulic fluids, aromatics and many solvents. Fluorocarbon possesses low gas permeability, low compression set, and good mechanical properties.
High fluorine grades offer higher resistance to swell in high octane and oxygenated fuel blends. This gives superior performance in Ethanol / Methanol blended gasoline.
Type A is commonly available in 75 & 90 Shore Hardness: – V75 & V90. These compounds are normally stocked in Black, although other colours can be manufactured, i.e. Brown or Green.
Other types are
Type B is generally used in Chemical Process plants, Power Utility Seals and Gaskets.
Type F – is used for Oxygenated Automotive fuels. Concentrated aqueous inorganic acids, water and steam.
Type ETP is also known as Viton® Extreme. If offers excellent Chemical resistance and greater performance compared to standard compounds. Used for Automotive & Off-Road – High pH lubricants, greases, & Coolants. Oil Exploration/ Production – Drilling Mud, Sour Wells. Special sealing requirements – solvents, coatings.
Additionally, specialty versions of these types are available to provide improved low temperature flexibility. These are called LT types, for example, GLT, and GFLT. These materials perform like the A, and F families. Respectively GLT & GFLT provide improved low temperature performance with a TR (10) of -40°F and brittleness to -76°F.
Fluorocarbons are not recommended for exposure to ketones, amines, low molecular weight esters and ethers, nitro hydrocarbons, hot hydrofluoric or chlorosulfonic acids, or Skydrol® fluids. They are also not recommended for situations requiring good low temperature flexibility.
